Top 5 Camping Locations in the South of England

Have you been waiting for inspiration as to where to go camping this summer… look no further. Here at Nine To Alive, we have all the best spots in the south of England for you.

1. New Forest, Hampshire

The New Forest, in the south of England, is a short drive from Bournemouth and is surrounded by spectacular natural beauty. There is a myriad of camping sites, that host a range of facilities.

A personal favourite of mine is Hollands Wood Campsite, it is located near Brockenhurst. A small town in the heart of the new forest, you can reach by a short cycle. This site facilitates tents, campers and provides toilets, showers and shops. Camping here you might also get a visit from the equine locals.

There is a selection of pubs, restaurants, and shops for the more relaxed getaway. But for those that would like to experience the New Forest to the fullest, you can enjoy cycling on their trails. Renting bikes from local rental areas, horse riding at local stables, water sports, and hiking and walking.

2. Weymouth, Dorset

This coastal haven is an idyllic spot for pitching up. There are plenty of campsites to cater to any adventure. Weymouth is located along the Dorset coastline, situated between Bournemouth and Exeter. The A34 is the best route when travelling from northern locations.

Weymouth Bay Holiday Park, East Fleet Farm Touring Park, and Osmington Mills Corner Campsite to name a few.

Some local activities you can access by camping in Weymouth include, beach days, hiking, water sports, and cycling. The area is also super dog friendly. A person favourite attraction is Monkey World, located only a 30 minute drive from Weymouth.

3. Cotswolds, Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire

The Cotswolds can be accessed easily from Birmingham, Bristol and a plethora of surrounding cities. The area is sufficient for any type of getaway.

Some of the campsites that could host you for the evening include, Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Tewkesbury Abbey Caravan Club Site, and Hoburne Cotswold.

There is a wealth of activities the Cotswolds allows you to explore. Horse riding, fishing, cycling, and hiking can all be enjoyed in abundance in the Cotswolds.

4. Suffolk

Camping in Suffolk provides an impressive experience of this underrated side of Great British countryside. There is an abundance of sites, Secret Meadows, Alde Garden, and Kessingland Beach Holiday Park.

The area has beautiful local attractions, in Farmlingham Castle, Lavenham, and Thetford Forest. You can enjoy cycling, hiking, water sports, and fishing.

Some things to look out for before booking your trip away are, keeping an eye on the weather, booking in advance and following local regulation.

5. South Downs

The South Downs provide an exceptional opportunity to explore some of the UK’s best national parks. The South Downs stretch across Hampshire and Sussex. Providing a versatile camping experience.

Some of the more popular camping sites include Blackberry Wood Campsite, Graffham Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Housedean Farm Campsite, and Southdown Way Campsite.

Once more, there are a number of activities you can enjoy. But there is an abundance of local attractions that can inspire your adventure. Arundel Castle, Devil’s Dyke, and Seven Sisters Country Park.
